Concerns over postcode sentencing in youth courts are highlighted in the Guardian today. The piece spotlights Out of Trouble research which found that in England and Wales some youth courts are 10 times more likely to give out prison sentences for certain offences than others.
Out of Trouble director Penelope Gibbs said: "I would call it a postcode lottery. Some areas will, of course, always have more of an issue with youth crime. But it's completely wrong if there is a lot more chance of you being sent to prison for committing a crime in one place rather than another. It goes against natural justice."
